Food

I plan to bring breakfast plus a snack to get me through lunch. If we have time, I plan to stop in Upland for pizza and ice cream on the way home.

Water

No water available on the trail, so we’ll need to carry everything we need. I would recommend hydrating before we start hiking and carrying at least 3 liters of water. I plan to carry 2 liters of water and 2 liters of electrolyte replacement.

Gear

Clothing

Based on the forecast, we will need to be prepared for temperatures ranging from the low-50s to 70s. Here is the forecast for the area: NOAA.

Here’s a list of the clothing I will bring for the hike:

First Aid/Emergency Kit
I will carry a large first-aid kit for the group. Each individual should carry the following:

 _
  • Navigation & Itinerary
    • I will print out a index card sized map for everyone
  • Sun Protection
    • You don’t want to forget sunscreen, chapstick and sunglasses for this hike
  • Headlamp or Flashlight
    • The first 3-4 hours of this hike will be in the dark
  • Emergency Shelter
    • I prefer an SOL Emergency Bivvy over a space blanket, but either will work
  • Poncho
    • If large enough, can also be used as a pack cover. Not necessary if your jacket is waterproof
  • Toilet Paper
  • Small first-aid kit for personal use.

Not sure when your planning this, but Angeles Crest Highway is closed between Islip Saddle and five miles west of Big Pines.

    Looks like a fun trip!
