With an upcoming backpacking trip, I wanted to get out for a quick hike to test the adjustments I made to my SMD Fusion 65. The pack has always carried well with 20 pounds or so, but when loaded with 30 lbs or more, it has been uncomfortable to carry. I loaded up the pack with some of the gear I planned to take on the backpacking trip, as well as my bear canister with 15 lbs of dumbbells to get the total weight up to 35 lbs.
Riley hadn’t been hiking out since our Duck Pass hike. He was even crazier than normal on the car ride to the trail, so as soon as we started hiking, I picked the steepest hill I could find with a use trail, and sent him up and down it a few times. Once he tired some, we hiked a two mile loop, then headed home. With the adjustments, the pack carried much better than it has in the past. I will take it on my Thousand Island Lake trip next week for further testing.
Geek Stats
Distance: ~2.5 miles || Elevation Gain/Loss: ±585 || Duration: 1 hour || Difficulty: Easy-Moderate (short duration, but steep trail)
