My wife and I took our son (~ 18 months old) on his first camping trip. He fell asleep before we arrived at our campsite and setup our tent. As expected, he woke up screeching and giggling when he realized we were all sleeping together in a tent. On our way out of the park, we hiked the short trail to Ryan Ranch.

I just found this post! We took our kids for their first camping trip about the same age- hard but so fun. Now that they are 4, we are starting to plan our first backpacking trip for this summer. Who knows if we’ll actually be able to pull it off! Here’s to outdoor families!

Thanks for the comment Suzy! My oldest will be 4 is August, so I am hoping to take him on his first overnighter somewhere this summer too!
Are you participating in Kids to Parks Day? http://www.hikinggeek.com/ktp/

Yes we are! This is our first year participating. I can’t decide on Rocky Mountain National Park or Sand Dunes National Park. It is so exciting thinking about all the things we can do with our kiddos in the great outdoors!
