Out for an early Sunday morning hike with co-workers and Riley. For some in the group, it was their first hike – not exactly an easy one to start with, but they did great.
…more details to follow as time allows.

Gear
- WoolX Merino Wool
- Lightweight Merino Wool Hoodie
- Performed as expected. Link to my full review here: WoolX Lightweight Merino Wool Baselayer Series – T-shirt, Hoodie & Boxers.
- Lightweight Merino Wool Hoodie
- Darn Tough Merino Wool Mountaineering Extra Cushion Sock
- Ideally used in cold weather, but since my backpacking boots are sized for heavy socks, I used them on this hike.
- These will get a ton of use once snow starts to fly.

- Full review is posted here- Gear Review: Deuter Airlite 28
- Geigerrig
- Rig 710, Hydration Pack Engine & Insulated Drink Tube

- Rig 710, Hydration Pack Engine & Insulated Drink Tube
- Oboz Wind Rivers
- My first hike with them. Lighter than the Beartooths, but offer great support.

Hi Tina,
I usually hike in the Riverside area. If you’re looking for hikes to join, you should consider joining the following meetup group. I have started posting my hikes there. If you join, mention you found the group through HikingGeek.com. Thanks!

This is a really nice hike. One bit of trivia that most people don’t know is that you pass through a grove of Sequoias on this trail! They were part of a USFS program to introduce the trees in different areas after fires back in the 60s and 70s. This is the only grove outside of the Sierras.

That’s awesome. I believe this was mentioned on MtSanJacinto.info some time ago, but I had forgotten. Thanks for the reminder!
Have you seen the Sequoias?
Jon B
I have! They stand out if you know what to look for (giant christmas tree shape and tiny pinecones). There are several around Lake Fulmor if you want to just drive up and see them. The rest are further up Black Mountain Trail where it run along Hall Canyon.
