This was our acclimation hike for Mt. Whitney, June 3-4 2014. We also used this hike as an opportunity to practice our glissading and self-arresting skills. Based on trip reports and the route I mapped out, the hike should have been around 7 miles roundtrip. Due to the extra hiking we did to find a spot to glissade, as well as getting a bit off track, our hike was 10+ miles. We spent close to 2 hrs in the hills south of Summit Lake.

Summit Lake. We hiked the hills to the right to practice our glissading and self-arresting skills.
An unnamed lake, located just to the west of Summit Lake.
The view from our ‘glissading hill.’ Mono Lake is in the distance on the right.

Tioga Lake, as seen on our way out of the park after our hike.
